Fear

So this morning I witnessed The Fear in River. Babies cry for a lot of reasons and it takes a while to figure out why they are crying until you become versed in your baby's particular cry dialect. I have pretty much become fluent in River speak and this morning Jude, River and I were playing in the living room. Jude was happily playing with his musical instrument set, I was enjoying a coffee and River was perched in his bumbo, eating a teddy bear and watching Jude play (one of River's favourite past-times). All of a sudden River burst out into his fearful cry. It was full out with complete lower lip extension and real tears. So strange...nothing seemed to be hurting him and it came out of the blue. Then I made the connection, River was afraid of this horrendous toy that Jude was shaking:

And here is a sample of the fear that River was experiencing while the rattle was gently making music:

Upon reflection, Jude had a similar reaction at the same age to a raccoon that was visiting our deck and peering in the window. That I understand raccoons have sharp teeth, claws, rifle through your garbage (more recently peel back our freshly laid sod) and look weaselly. But a bumble bee rattle? I don't get it.

Father's Day Weekend

We headed to Kingston this weekend for some Gazendam family time, including a Father's day celebration. So nice to travel when it is not a holiday! We were able to take the boys to visit Naomi at school on Friday, such a proud auntie. Saturday found us heading to Fairfield park to enjoy the breeze from the lake. Jude loved throwing sticks and stones into the water, Dad was the only one brave enough to take a dip. River was feeling a little cranky, but Naomi always found a way to cheer him up. Aaron came to visit as well, and Jude enjoyed being tossed high in the air while taking a dip in the backyard pool. Poor Isaac was studying away for his exams, but he managed to get a little time with the boys in order to be named "ice" by Jude (as that is how his name sounds the way he says it). All in all, a wonderful trip!

Bruins win the CUP!

Well the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup! River has been a very dedicated fan since the day he was born. His Pops has decked him out in Bruins gear and he has loyally supported Timmy Thomas and the boys all through the playoffs. And they won! Very exciting.
Last year the Chicago Blackhawks won the Cup. The situation was earily similar. Jude's great-uncle Wilf decked him out in Hawks gear and Jude loyally supported Toews and Kane and watched his favorite team win the cup in his first year in existance as a fan.

It makes me wonder if there is something special about our kids. Two years in a row their team has won a cup in the first year of their lives after long droughts. Pretty amazing stat. I'll tell you one thing though, our next kid will be a Leafs fan FOR SURE!

Jude has graduated from head bobbing, to foot stomping, and now he will full out dance. It does make me a tad dizzy though...
